One of the oldest cultural institutions in Gabrovo is the Regional Historical Museum. It is housed in the former building of the Bulgarian National Bank – multi-store baroque house built in 1904 by architect Nikola Lazarov on behalf of prominent Gabrovo industrialist’s family Hadjistoychev. The richest collections of the Museum of nearly 100,000 units include exhibits from the Paleolithic period, from late antique civilization in these lands (IV-VI century), the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdom, the Turkish domination, from the Renaissance and the industrial boom of the Bulgarian Manchester till nowadays. In the Regional Historical Museum – Gabrovo you can see the exposition Gabrovo and gabrovians that presents the development of Gabrovo as a settlement on its contemporary territory.
