The Geographic centre of Bulgaria

The Geographic centre of Bulgaria is located in the Uzana area, situated about 22 km south of Gabrovo. The measurements defining the centre were made in 1993through 6 different mathematic methods, because the surface of Bulgaria is not an ideal geometric figure to find the intersection. In 1991 there was put a sign which marks the centre of the country`s territory. The sign represents a pyramid with plumb, decorated in the colours of the national flag. The sign is piece of work of Peter Hadzhiginev a sculptor born in Gabrovo.

The Geographic centre was inaugurated inDecember 1991 by the president of Republic Bulgaria by that time – Dr.ZhelioZhelev. Since 2008 the centre is included into the National Tourist Movement “100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria” by number 19, along with Architectural-ethnographic complex “Etar”, National Museum of Education and Museum “House of humour and satire”.
