Peter Padalski
I am Peter Padalski. I was born on 30 July 1897 in Gabrovo. I was a party and trade union activist, fighting for workers’ rights in the hard times after the First World War. The times were turbulent and full of tension. On 18 April 1925 I was brutally murdered by the police. My memorial stands in the park next to the city bus station, at the western entrance to the city. Few people know that in this same park there is an old willow tree on which people break branches every Palm Sunday for health. Perhaps it remembers those terrible times better than all of us. My story is a reminder of the price of freedom and that we must never forget the past.
