Dr. Nikola Vasiliadi

I am Dr. Nikola Vasiliadi. I was born on 6 December 1822 in Bucharest, but my father was a farmer from Gachevtsi huts, near Gabrovo, who moved to Romania and became rich. I became a doctor and joined the Bulgarian national movement. I was one of the founders of the “Virtuous Society”, a Bulgarian political organization in Romania. Few people know that in my will of 1881, I left all my property to Gabrovo with a mandate to found a polytechnic school. Thus was born the Mechanical Technical School, which today bears my name – the Professional Technical School “Dr. Nikola Vasiliadi”. My monument in Gabrovo is a reminder that true wealth lies in knowledge and technical progress.
