Nikolai Palauzov

I am Nikolay Palauzov. I was born in Gabrovo on May 9, 1819. I studied at the Richelieu Lyceum in Odessa and became a Russian clerk of Bulgarian origin. I worked as a censor in the Odessa censorship and was a member of the Odessa customs. But my greatest work was the establishment of the Odessa Bulgarian Board of Trustees, which assisted Bulgarian students and educators. Few people know that it was I who initiated the establishment of the first Bulgarian secular school in Gabrovo together with Vasil Aprilov. A street in Gabrovo bears my name, and my monument here reminds of the hundreds of Bulgarians who received education thanks to the Board of Trustees.
