Academician Ivan Gyuzelev

I am Academician Ivan Nedev Gyuzelev; I was born on June 24, 1844, in Gabrovo, and I have dedicated my life to education, science, and public life. After graduating with a degree in physics and mathematics from Novorossiysk University in Odessa, I returned to my hometown and became a teacher at the Gabrovo High School. I established the first physics laboratory in Bulgaria, equipped with instruments for conducting scientific experiments. I wrote textbooks on physics and mathematics and promoted the study of the sciences through hands-on experiments. After the Liberation, I participated in the Constituent National Assembly and served as Minister of Public Education. I was a member of the Bulgarian Literary Society, now the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. To this day, my name is associated with the development of Bulgarian education and the scientific traditions of Gabrovo.
