Academician Nikola Mikhov

I am Academician Nikola Mikhov. I was born on March 6, 1877, in Gabrovo to a family of a priest and a teacher. I graduated from the Aprilov High School, and then studied biology and sociology in Geneva and Brussels. But my greatest passion was bibliography. I authored fundamental bibliographic works and became one of Bulgaria’s most prominent bibliographers and encyclopedists. My motto was: “Not a single book should be cited secondhand.” I served as deputy director and chief librarian of the National Library from 1908 to 1912. My commemorative bust in Gabrovo serves as a reminder that books are the foundation of all knowledge and that true science requires precision and dedication.
